What Wide Horizons Counselling Offers

Online, In-person and Walk and Talk

Online, In-person and Walk and Talk

Online, In-person and Walk and Talk

Wide Horizons Counselling  works on secure internet platforms for online counselling.  For those in Tuggeranong (ACT) and Queanbeyan,  you can also choose to meet in  a counselling room, or  "Walk and Talk Therapy" outdoors.

 Wide Horizons Counselling focuses on

  • Change and loss
  • Coping with grief
  • Spirituality and meaning in life
  • Family relationships, bonding with children
  • Anxiety & depression
  • Self worth and healthy emotions

Walk and Talk Therapy takes place outdoors in safe and quiet places. The client and counsellor walk side by side as they conduct their counselling session. Walking in the outdoors can be health-giving and can make it easier for the client to open up.

What happens in sessions

Online, In-person and Walk and Talk

Online, In-person and Walk and Talk

Each session is 50 minutes.  Client-centred counselling means the client sets the agenda and the counsellor listens actively. With the client’s permission, the counsellor introduces appropriate reflections and activities. In the 10 minute wrap up at the end, the client reflects on the important parts of the session, and any follow-up work and selfcare are discussed.

The first session is devoted to getting to getting to know each other. It make take 6 or more sessions for the client to deal with the issue and incorporate sustainable, ongoing change into their life.  Sometimes 1-2 sessions are enough to help the client move forward. The client is the one who chooses how many sessions.

The goal of counselling is to help the client recognise and value their coping strengths as well as incorporating new strategies that will be beneficial for living a full life.

Faith options

Online, In-person and Walk and Talk

The client chooses whether they would like to incorporate spirituality and faith into the counselling sessions, and in what ways. Lyndal respectfully engages with clients regardless of their gender, sex, ethnicity and religion.

Lyndal has training and experience in Christian faith and practices, and some clients find great help in incorporating faith and existential hope into the counselling sessions.

Workshops and group programs

Wide Horizons Counselling offers group workshops on grief and loss, spiritual help, making meaning in life, self-care, and helping families thrive.

Short workshops are for 2 hours. The highly acclaimed grief, change  and loss program called  ‘Seasons for Growth’ runs over 4 sessions.

Professional Supervision

Professional Supervision

Professional supervision is now offered to chaplains, lay ministry workers and cross-cultural workers.

Professional supervision helps the supervisee see the big picture, both professionally and personally. Ethical requirements of the supervisee's role are discussed.
