I am a gentle and caring listener who is committed to helping people overcome the obstacles that stop them living their best lives. I am client centred, using a variety of approaches, depending on what will help the client best. I understand that family, community and past trauma can play a big role in our lives. I include strengths-based approaches to empower clients to harness their coping skills and lived experiences to their advantage. As a holistic practitioner, I integrate approaches that work on feelings, thoughts, behaviours and spirituality.
My special interests are grief, change and loss; spirituality and meaning in life, family relationships, anxiety and depression. I recognise that change and loss affect us in many ways – for example, through illness, caring roles, change of job or family circumstances, loss of a pet, mental health issues, feeling overwhelmed as a parent.
I engage respectfully with every client, showing positive regard to everyone regardless of gender, sex, ethnicity or religion.
My varied life experiences help me be an effective carer. I have worked in five countries and speak German and Turkish as well as English. My work life includes biochemistry laboratory work and research, school teaching (both secondary and primary), community development in high needs communities, Christian ministry and chaplaincy. I am a trained and registered counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association, member # 27013.
Challenges I have faced in my own life include multiple international moves, breast cancer, and anxiety in our family.
